MESSAGE BOARD DOWN

This page will document the progress of the construction of our new home.  We began the loan application on 7/18/05 and clearing began on 7/25/05.  I anticipate that the project will take 7-8 months to complete.  Below is the house we are building.

This is our building lot before clearing.

staking.jpg

This picture, taken on August 6, is of Blair Otts, Rachel's dad, helping JJ stake the corners of the house in preparation for excavating the basement.

basement.jpg

This picture was taken on 8/23 and shows the basement walls after the forms were removed.

waterproofing.jpg

I went by the site early on 8/24, and the waterproofing had already been completed.  Must have happened the evening of 8/23.

bricksfront.jpg

The brick work was completed on 9/3.

beams.jpg

I liked this picture of the beams that will be supporting the house.  We used Metalcraft out of Durham...Tony and Chuck are great to work with!

framing10-7.jpg

Here is the house as of 10/7.  All of the rooms on the first floor have been framed.  In addition, the floor joists for the second floor are complete and the plywood sheathing is completed on the first floor.

readyforroof.jpg

Here is a picture as of October 13.  The sub flooring on the second floor is complete and the front porch roof has been framed.  Roof framing will begin next week!

Here is a view of the left/rear of our house as of 11-2.

house1114.jpg

Here is the house as of 11/14.  The framers started setting winows today.  The stamped concrete was washed and sealed, and the guy building our deck got started today.  I hope to have the deck and framing done by the end of the week so we can get siding on next week and have the plumbers and HVAC guys get started.

Here is a close-up of the stamped concrete.

I love this picture.  This is the view from the deck.

11-18frontview.jpg

Here is the house as of 11-18.  The framers are done and the rough-in crews are getting in there now.  We hope to have siding and shingles going on in the next couple of weeks.

house12-24.jpg

Here is the house as of 12/24.  They have the columns on the front porch.  Now all the exterior needs is a good coat of paint, some grading and landscaping....wish I could say the same for the interior!

cleared.jpg

Here is the lot after being cleared.

excavating.jpg

Derek Whitaker and his buddy came to excavate for the basement on 8/13/05.  We pinned the corners on the house the next day.

footings.jpg

The footings were formed on 8/15.  The next day they passed inspection and were poured.

basementback.jpg

Here is the rear view of the basement.

garagegravel.jpg

Here is the garage after filling it with gravel. Between the garage and the basement floor, we had to bring in 225 tons of gravel!

framing.jpg

Framing started on 9/12.  This picture was taken a few days later.

Here is the framing as of 9/26.  Click the picture for a larger image.

Here is the view overlooking the pond from the second floor of the house.

roofframing.jpg

Here is the house on 10/21.  We hope to start with shingles on 10/31.

11-2.jpg

Here is the house as of 11-2.  As you can see, we still have a little more framing to do.

stampedconcrete3.jpg

Here is the front porch after the concrete was rinsed off.

11-18rearview.jpg

Here is the rear view of the house on 11/18.  The deck guy is still working, but the steps won't be added until after we have backfilled around the house.

11-18lookingout.jpg

Here is the view from the family room.

12-15.jpg

Here is the house as of 12-15.  Over the last 3-4 weeks, the siding and shingles have been installed.  In addition, all rough-ins have been completed and inspected.  Insulation work is scheduled to be completed 12/20 and sheetrock should begin 12/21 and take 2-3 weeks.

Here is the boys' bathroom tile floor.  It was the first one I ever did.
